        Valparai Hill Station is a taluka in Coimbatore district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.  Valparai is located in the Anaimalai Range at an elevation of about 3500 ft above sea level.  It is surrounded by lush green forests and mountains a pollution-free city.  It also shares borders with the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Eravikulam National Park, and the Vazhachal Forest Division.  Not only this but there are also waterfalls and rivers here.  forest, hill, Reserve, waterfall, and lake-like it has all the natural resources Valparai is currently a growing tourist destination of Tamil Nadu.

History

        Even Valparai is a village it has a history of 150 years.  Its first historical record is that in 1846 KR Ramasamy Mudaliar started a coffee plantation here.  Then in 1864, the Carnatic Coffee Company started a coffee plantation here following Ramasamy et al. This is the first corporation company in Valparai.  Roads and guest houses were built at Valparai in 1875 during the British rule for the visit of the England future Prince Edward VII, Prince of Wales.

        Tea production is currently the main occupation of the people here. The economy of Valparai as a whole is derived from this tea garden.  Apart from the tea plantation, there is some money to be made from tourism.  The cool temperatures of Valparai are ideal for tea, coffee, cardamom, and cinchona trees. And there are hundreds of workers working on many coffee estates.

Valparai Forests

        The Valparai forest is home to a large number of wildlife, of which the lion-tailed monkey is the most famous.  The Valparai region receives most of its rainfall during the monsoon season.  This is why the whole city is surrounded by gardens and lush forests.  It is known that there are many leopards and elephants here. The Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to elephants, pigs, lion-tailed monkeys, spotted deer, gourds, and giant squirrels. Apart from this, many species of birds and exotic birds can be seen here, including the large hornbill.

        The mountain range found in Valparai(Valparai Hills) is associated with the Nilgiri Tahrin.  It is located in the Anaimalai Range in the Western Ghats at an elevation of about 7500 ft above sea level.  The Valparai Hills, which are covered with grasses and forests all over the hill, has 56 gardens.  Monkey Falls is located at a distance of about 35 km from Valparai. From there the footpath starts at Valparai and has 40 Harbin curves.  Mountain goats used to live in large numbers in this hilly region.  But now its numbers have dwindled due to human poaching.

        Even though this is full of tea estate there are some Valparai places to visit.
  • Monkey falls - More waterfalls are found here. In that way a waterfall comes after 30 km on the road from Pollachi to Valparai it is called Monkey Falls.  There is an entrance fee of Rs 15 to 20 at the check post to go to the Monkey falls.
  • Athirapalli falls - Athirapally Falls is located at a distance of 50 km on the road from Valparai to Kerala.  It is located near the Solaiyar Range. The water that comes here falls into the waterfall from a height of 80 feet before mixing with the river.  These two are the Valparai waterfalls.
  • Aliyar Dam - Aliyar Dam is located in Valparai on the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore district.  The dam is located at a distance of 27 km from Valparai and is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation. It is a popular tourist destination with parks, fisheries, and a mini theme park.
  • Grass Hills - Valparai is mostly green so it is found all around. There is also a green grass base on the hillside as a protected area. It is part of the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park. This beautiful grassy area is located at a distance of about 15 km from Valparai. These grasses grow very high in the mountains at an altitude of about 2400m MSL.
        Valparai has mountains, forests, and Valparai is surrounded by dams, and waterfalls making this place the best tourist place. Tourists stay here for 2 to 3 days.

How to reach Valparai

        The town of Valparai is surrounded by hills and forests and is not directly connected to many cities by road. But you can easily reach Valparai from Coimbatore.  Usually, people reach Valparai by first arriving at Coimbatore, then by reaching Pollachi, by taking buses that come from Pollachi every 30 minutes.  By rail, arrive at Coimbatore Junction Railway Station and then reach Valparai, which is 105 km away by bus.  You can also reach Valparai by taxi and autos.
  • Valparai's nearest airport is Coimbatore International Airport.  It is located at a distance of about 112 km from Valparai.
  • Tirunelveli to Valparai distance is 395 Km.
  • Coimbatore to Valparai distance is 107 Km.
