Kanyakumari Travel Places - The Virgin Princess and The Land end

Kanyakumari(Kaniyakumari) district is located at the southern tip of India and Tamil Nadu.  Known as the 'Land End', Kanyakumari is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India.  Kanyakumari attracts tourists from all over the world with its unique features such as sunrise, sunset, 133 ft Thiruvalluvar statue, and Vivekananda rock monument.  Apart from being a tourist destination, it is also a holy place with a beach dedicated to Goddess Kanyakumari on the banks of the city.

Hindu mythology

The temple of Goddess Kanni in Kanyakumari tells two stories in Hindu mythology.  In the first mythology, Parvati was to marry Lord Shiva in Kanyakumari in the incarnation of Goddess Kanni.  But on the wedding day, Lord Shiva did not come to marry her.  So the rice and grains that were kept for the wedding remained uncooked.  Over time, they turned into stones, and people still believe that the little stones on the beach are grains and rice.

According to another legend, Hanuman carried an entire mountain on his shoulders with Mrida Sanjivani to save a life during Rama Ravana's war. On the way, a mound of earth fell from the mountain. This part of the soil is called the medicinal hill area. That means the living area of the drug. This is said to be due to the abundance of unique herbs and folk remedies still found in the area (in the Kanyakumari hills) to this day. Agastya also took many herbs from the region and became known as Agastya Swaram in memory of Agastya.

Kanyakumari tourist places

Kanyakumari is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Lakshadweep Sea and on one side by land.  Since Kanyakumari district has so many beaches it is the main reason for being a tourist destination.  Apart from the beaches, Kanyakumari is also famous for its Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, and Rock Island.  The culture, the crafts, the food, and the customs of the people are all impressive.  Not only this but you can also see many foreign people there.  All this is a set of reasons to visit Kanyakumari.

There are so many things but facilities are needed to get there.  But Tamil Nadu Government made a great arrangement and Kanyakumari has been turned into a full-fledged tourist destination.  There the Tamil Nadu government runs its own Poompuhar Shopping Corporation.  The corporation has two ships that will take you to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Islands, and Thiruvalluvar Statue.  Here there are some of Kanyakumari's best places.

Swami Vivekananda Memorial

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located at Vavathurai in Kanyakumari. Like the Thiruvalluvar statue, Kanyakumari is equally famous.  The monument is located on a rock on the beach about 500 meters from the mainland of Vavathurai.  After the death of Vivekananda, a memorial hall was erected in his memory on this rock as he claimed to have attained enlightenment.  There is also a meditation hall in the hall.  Built with various architectural styles, the hall also houses a statue of Vivekananda.

133ft Tiruvalluvar Statue

The first thing that comes to mind when we think of Kanyakumari is the 133 feet high Thiruvalluvar statue in the sea.  This statue has two parts. One is the statue of Thiruvalluvar and the other is the pedestal on which the statue of Thiruvalluvar is placed.  The height of the statue of Thiruvalluvar is 29 meters or 95 feet. The height of the pedestal is 1.5 meters or 38 feet.  In total, it stands at a height of 40 meters or 113 feet.  This 133 feet represents the 133 chapters written by Thiruvalluvar.  The total height of the statue is 7,000 tons.  The statue was unveiled on January 1, 2000.  Significant after the statue was unveiled, a tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004 struck the statue, but it still stands today.

To reach the Vivekananda Memorial Hall and the Thiruvalluvar Statue, one has to travel by sea. The Government of Tamil Nadu has facilitated the transport with three ships. All three ships will make the trip from exactly 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can wait in line, get a ticket and then go to any of those two places on a trip.
