Manimuthar Dam, one of the largest dams in Tamil Nadu, is located in Manimuthar in the Tirunelveli district. Not only the dam but also many waterfalls cascade down the hills. The dam irrigates about 65,000 acres of land at Thisayanvilai, Weerawanallur, Karisalpatti and Nanguneri. The primary purpose of this dam is to prevent rainwater from the bay of the Bengal ocean.
